At the request of citizens who visit our office daily to lodge complaints about the poor quality of utility services and the many illegal rubbish dump sites, we initiated the project Campaign to improve utility services.

Campaign to improve utility services in six municipalities in the County 10 is biannual project (implemented in 2007 and 2008) aimed at solving a problem of waste management in six municipalities by engaging municipal administration, public utility companies, local communities and citizens in a joint effort to ensure regular and thorough cleaning and maintenance of roads, parks and recreational areas. Activities included identifying and cleaning up illegal rubbish dump sites in all six cities in County 10, in which have participated representatives of local communities, volunteers, utility companies and municipal officials. All of them equally have been involved in implementation of coordinated actions in municipalities.
After cleaning of illegal rubbish dump sites, in an effort to prevent the emergence of new ones, we had broadcasted on local radio stations debates about the negative impact of waste on the environment and potential health risks caused by the presence of illegal dump sites. At the same time with the implementation of the media campaign we have launched an initiative to set up notice boards, we distributed posters and leaflets and ensured placement of additional containers and garbage bins to critical locations.
Project implemented within the SECTOR Programme of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC). Program funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)
